Here are some questions which you should ask when you enquire about any MBA course :

1. Is the program a distance learning or fully taught ? Does the program suit your style of learning ?

2. If it is distance learning, what kind of local support are you getting ? In terms of references, text and technical support if it is a virtual MBA.

3. How long has the program be offered in Malaysia ?
Comments : (Newer facilitators means teething problems). Is the program a direct import from an overseas university ? or does the local institution have some inputs that cater / tailor to the local business environment ? This is important because you don't want to do a course that discuss all about American or European companies ONLY.

4. When and where are the classes held ? With the K.L. city ?
Comments : Over weekends or during week days. Some offer weekend lectures that last through the day. Some offer week days at 6:00PM to 9:00 PM. This translates to convenience and life style changes.

5. Will you have access to resources such as a well stocked library ?
Comments :Management studies at the MBA level requires you to refer to journals more than text books. Journals are quite hard to come by in most local libraries. Even the institute/university have have a large library, but they may not have all the right materials for studying & researching on management. Moreover, management books are expensive nowadays, they typically cost RM70 and above and you do not want to spend thousands on them (unless of course you are an avid collector of books!).

6. Will there be any residential ?

7. How much do the residential cost ?

8. Is travel and lodging included as part of the course fees ?

9. What do the fee cover ? Are there any hidden cost ?
Comments : If there are residential overseas, is the air fare, travel arrangements, insurance and accommodation covered ? Other incidentals include re-sit examination fees.

10. If it is a distance learning course offered via the Internet :
  • Do you have a personal computer or notebook computer with the necessary devices to access the Internet ? (A typical desktop PC will cost you at least RM2000-3500 and a notebook computer will cost you from RM5500-15,000). Not sure how to buy one ? Ask someone at the MBA Forum.
  • How long will you be spending "online" ? What are the line charges ?   Keep in mind that the longer you do the more it will cost you. The local Internet Service Providers (commonly known as ISP, Jaring or TMnet) will charge you 1.5 sen per minute, excluding registration and annual subscription fees.
  • Are the lines reliable ? In some areas the quality of the lines for Internet may not be good i.e. a lot of "noises" causing intermitted (and often frustrating) distruptions when you surf the Internet.
  • Don't forget, there's a learning curve if you are not very familiar with the I.T. aspects to things. Get a friend to coach you or ask someone at the MBA Forum
