In most if not
all MBA courses you will be assessed through essay or report based
assignments. There is a high chance that there will be at least one
assignment for each subject that you do. Some has two or more,
depending on the number of lecturers you have for that subject, each
will give you one and you may be asked to do either or both. The
arrangements do vary but the assignments are more or less the same
across MBA courses. Here's an example of a marketing management
assignment :
"Take a product or a
service that your are familiar with, using your own knowledge or
research into the advertising and marketing strategies that are employed
for the particular product or service in question, describe how the
market for that product is segmented. Describe the basis for
segmentation that the firm is using. Discuss how this might affect their
marketing programs. In face of the current economic crisis that country
is experiencing, recommend possible changes or factors that the firm
might want to consider, arguing your points critically."
In this assignment, the student is required to write
about his/her company and using the concepts discussed to analyze the
situation and make necessary recommendations. There is no right or wrong
answer per se, as in all management subjects, so don't even try to find
the right answer. It all depends on how you want to argue or justify
your recommendations, which of course is based on what your perception
of the "problem" at hand.
Assignments are your best opportunity to score. Unlike
exams, you are given ample time and with less pressure one should make
full use of this opportunity to do well. This article is a general guide
and tactics you can use that will enhance the quality of you work.
Remember, your work is a statement of yourself, make it a statement of
excellence !
